Tiedbound

In Birmingham, Martin receives a letter from Will confessing his takeover, and his ultimatum of Cecil's life, for his own freedom. Thomas, Pierre, and Diego share stories of folk tales, and old stories from their childhoods. We see each of the three grappling with the idea that this may be their last voyage. Duncan and Josiah arrive in Cuba and share a final conversation before stepping foot on the island, and share a conversation about their friendship, and vowing to protect each other til the end.

Thomas and the crew scope out the island from a far for British fleets. Duncan and Josiah arrive in Uvero to a complete ghost town. The once lively town boarded and locked down. They arrive at Duncan's mother, Carla's house, who is shocked by Duncan being alive. Duncan introduces Josiah and catches Carla up on his life. As the three prepare for bed, cannon fire and screams ring off from outside. The three are forced to escape the town to escape the violent raids. Cecil chats with his inmate about his hatred for unnecessary ruthlessness, explaining his hatred for people like Will, and crews like the Black Hawkes. Thomas and Diego deliver a final triumphant speech while their crew prepares for the impending chaos.

Martin is taking no risks, and sends a new fleet to take down to Will. Martin's recon vessel arrives and Will decimates it in minutes, slaughtering the whole crew and imprisoning the admiral. Down in the brig, Cecil interrogates Will on his motivations who slowly begins to crack under all the pressure points but doesn't break. Thomas' arrives at the bay and the two forces finally clash culminating in one of bloodiest battles on Cuban waters. Will facing pressure from all sides, and being outmatched by the Black Hawkes naval capabilities, retreats onto land. For the first time we see Will begin to lose control leading to a full breakdown. Duncan, Josiah and Clara get caught and when Duncan gets overwhelmed trying to protect Clara, Josiah puts his skills to the test, protecting the two, winning them the fight, ultimately escaping. Thomas and Diego's forces push forward while the 3 celebrate the win, but Pierre has something else on his mind.

The episode opens showing the back in forth between both sides of the war as the Black Hawkes push further into the island where Will is able to gain the advantage on land. Duncan, Josiah and Clara make it to Las Tunas where they scavenge for food and water to no avail. In the same city, Thomas and the crew prepare for another battle as Will begins applying pressure after gaining the advantage of land. Duncan unaware that the city is about to undergo a massive attack, goes out scavenging when Will's soldiers arrive and a full-scale battle breaks out. Duncan finds his way back to the safe house where he and Josiah begin escorting Clara out the city safely. As the battle rages on, Pierre has seemingly given up, starting an argument with Diego about how hopeless it is to continue. As Thomas and Diego fight in the streets, they run into Duncan and the others. The 5 stand off but Thomas agrees to alliance. When the battle is nearly lost, an unfamiliar group of soldiers come storming in.

The 5 retreat from the new threat. Will's men begin falling back as their numbers drop rapidly. Martin is shown leading his army as the British have arrived to take back the operation. Thomas, Diego, and Duncan devise a plan to retrieve Cecil to get on Martin's side. Before they leave, Josiah confronts Duncan on if they can trust Thomas given their history, and Duncan reassures him they are safe. When the crew leaves for Cecil, the base is raided by Martin, leaving Josiah to fight for his and Clara's survival. Pierre is seen zoning out as the death and fighting completely corrupts him. The crew find Cecil's location. During the extraction, a fight breaks out in the prison. The crew successfully free Cecil who is confused by his rescue, but Diego is captured in the process. Thomas and Duncan converse on where to go next, and Duncan offers to go after Diego so Thomas can continue to lead the Black Hawkes.

Duncan follows Cecil back to Will's outpost. Duncan gains a vantage point and notices Martin's men closing in on their location. Thomas makes it back to their base fully raided and believes Josiah ratted them out and begins hunting him down. Duncan breaks Cecil out and is immediately caught by Will's men who throws the two into a cell. Martin arrives at the outpost and Will gives his all with the last of his forces to fight them off, but inevitably fails. Duncan and Cecil are freed by Martin's men, and Duncan immediately makes a run fighting off Martin's men barely slipping out alive. Thomas finds Josiah and confronts him on his betrayal. Josiah cries, telling Clara to run, insisting to Thomas he did nothing. Josiah wipes his tears away, and raises his sword bracing for his inevitable death. Not backing down the two fight but Thomas quickly overpowers Josiah, capturing him, returning him to the now empty base. Duncan arrives back at base confronted by Thomas.

Thomas and Duncan talk, but no amount of it will change Thomas' mind. Duncan slices Diego's leg, and goes after Thomas. Martin interrogates Will, who finally breaks. He reveals his father would abuse him, selling him off to his friends just to buy a beer. Martin momentarily sympathizes, before ordering his execution. Thomas and Duncan continue their fight, when Thomas knocks Duncan's sword away, slitting his arm. Duncan left with no choice, tackles Thomas and begins choking him out, but stops before he can kill Thomas. The two lay bloodied on the ground when Duncan realizes Clara is nowhere to be found. He scours the city, nearly bleeding out before being caught by Martin's men once more. Martin orders Duncan to be killed, but Duncan offers a trade in return for his own life.

Duncan takes Martin to Thomas, Diego, Josiah, and Cecil's location. When they arrive, all 4 of them are nowhere to be found. Martin interrogates Duncan who begins running. He quickly tears his shirt and wraps his wound with it before jumping a canal to escape Martin temporarily. Josiah, Diego and Thomas are seen working together to escape, they both make it to a horse stable and Thomas takes off north-east, but Josiah stays behind to look for Duncan. Martin sends men after Duncan and Cecil. Martin performs Will's execution ending his reign over the Caribbean. Duncan and Josiah meet and return to the stables where Duncan prepares Josiah to leave, so he can stay and find Carla. The two argue but Josiah ultimately refuses to leave Duncan to die by himself. The two prepare to get some rest when they hear screams nearby. Duncan gets to a vantage point and sees Carla being taken by Martin's men putting Duncan in a silent, panicked rage.

Thomas and Diego arrive in Port Padre which is suspiciously unguarded. They reach a ship and find Pierre. The three argue about Pierre abandoning them, and Pierre agrees, then goes quiet. Duncan and Thomas formulate a plan to save Carla, and Duncan reveals his arm has been infected from the duel with Thomas. With not much time left, Duncan forces Josiah to stay behind while he makes one final desperate act to save Carla. Thomas, Diego and Pierre set sail. Thomas asks Pierre what's wrong, he begins talking about the affects the war has had on him, and slowly begins placing his blame on pirates, Thomas tries to cool him off, Pierre whistles and suddenly British soldiers come from below the deck, arresting Thomas and Diego. Beginning to succumb to his infection, Duncan infiltrates Martin's camp and rescues Carla. Martin's men are alerted, and begin chasing the two. Duncan is able to hold them off barely, but as they escape, Carla is shot, Duncan shortly breaks down, barely escaping alive.

Thomas and Diego are put in the back of a carriage and rode back to Las Tunas. Thomas asks why Pierre did it. He monologues about how the cycle of war and death only ends with pirates themselves, and as the war continued he realized, pirates no longer have a place in their world. Josiah eagerly waits for Duncan's return but he never does, leading him to go looking for him. Josiah finds Duncan under a tree unable to walk, groaning in pain. Josiah hugs Duncan, who cries "I couldn't save her", insisting to Josiah that it was supposed to be him the bullet hit. The two embrace each other and share one final laugh. Duncan tells Josiah to put him out his misery but Josiah refuses. Duncan places a British pistol in Josiah's hand, Josiah cries, screaming "I'm sorry" before shooting Duncan, killing him instantly. In the morning, Josiah gives Duncan a burial on the outskirts of the city, vowing revenge against Thomas, who now, alongside Diego is being taken to Britain for interrogation.
