The Contract

"If you are reading this, I know you can't forgive me for what I've done to you. I don't deserve your forgiveness, and I hope you learned to be smarter than to do something so foolish. The reason for all of this, the reason you are here, is because you are my son, I never told you because I was afraid how you'd react, but there's no more time. When me and your mother had you, I swore to protect you from the world I lived in, I betrayed that contract which is why me and your mother broke apart. Years went by and jealousy and guilt weighed on me, so I took matters into my own hands, and did the unthinkable. I took you back for my own selfish reasons, ignoring the damage it would cause you, which led us here. I deserve this, what you've done to me, and worse. There's no debt I can pay to atone for my sins against you, and I'm sorry for dragging you down with me. You may be my son, but I was never a father to you, and for that I hope you never forgive me.
