Paradise Lost & Regained

Overview

Paradise Lost and Paradise Regained by John Milton are a metaphysical exploration of freedom, evil, and human fallenness. Adam’s Fall becomes a tragedy of free will: humanity loses perfection precisely because it possesses the power to choose. Satan embodies freedom transformed into self-destructive rebellion, while Christ represents freedom perfected through self-mastery. Paradise Lost reveals the birth of alienation between humanity and God; Paradise Regained presents its overcoming through reason, inner discipline, and spiritual freedom.
