Prince Carl is on an informal evening visit to his friend, the English charge d'affaires, Stephen Leech, and his wife Alice. Here, Fritz offers Wedel Jarlsberg, the Danish prince, the Norwegian throne. Another meeting is arranged – this time between the charismatic Fridtjof Nansen and Prince Carl and Princess Maud. This is a strong meeting for Nansen and Princess Maud.

In Stockholm, King Oscar II abdicates the Norwegian throne. This triggers jubilation in Norway. Now all that is needed is to get Prince Carl to accept the throne. For that, a strong and charismatic man is needed. King Oscar II's resignation leads to a celebration at the Theatercafe, where Prime Minister Michelsen toasts with champagne together with Fridtjof Nansen and Fritz Wedel Jarlsberg. Now it's time to get Prince Carl to make up his mind, and Nansen is once again tasked with making the trip to Copenhagen.
