Ramon Ontiveros learned all the wrong lessons from this country, and the country rewarded him. He learned that if the victim is an immigrant, starvation is not a crime. That if the human trafficker speaks English and owns an LLC, law enforcement becomes surprisingly patient. That the justice system is allergic to accountability when the perpetrator looks like a “respectable businessman” and the victim looks like an inconvenience.
