Art World (2015)

In the first episode of Art World, we explore Baghdad's burgeoning independent film scene, meeting two of its leading directors, Mohamed Al-Daradji (Children of God) and Yahya Al Allaq (War Cannister). Iraqi cinema was devastated during the Gulf War and with the continuous conflict in the region since, artistic endeavors have often been put on hold. In our video, we see how these filmmakers are producing films despite the desolate industry, using real locations, non-professional actors and improvised dialogue

The Creators Project heads to Stage Singapore check out the small island-nation's growing art scene and market. Guided by local artists Wong Lip Chin, Ruben Pang, and Donna Ong, we'll see Singapore through their perspective and see how the country's legacy of regulation has permeated their works. In Art World, we spotlight the most vibrant international cities and their distinguished cultural pockets via the symbiotic relationship between artists and their environment.

Our host travels to San Pedro Sula, Honduras, a city facing an ongoing threat of gang violence. There, local artists are taking back the streets through an emerging art scene. She meets with two young street artists Rei Blinky and Maeztro Urbano, who are dedicated to bringing art into their city and creating real change through positive spaces for young people to express themselves non-violently and feel safe.
