Walter Wasik (birth name: Volodymyr Yosypovych Vasik) was born on May 1, 1930, in Sambir near Lviv, Ukraine. He underwent training at Hollywood studios went studied at the Brooks Institute of Photography (1955-1956), originally based in Santa Barbara, and then he studied at the New York Institute of Photography (1961-1963).
