That's Not Art

Overview

Inspiration for this silent short film came out of an interest in unintentional art spawned from shapes / forms / figures created by those covering graffiti / street art. The catalyst for this short film was an aggressive Cabbagetown resident, in Atlanta, who was encountered while filming ‘places in pieces vol. 3’. During that encounter, the resident was ranting about graffiti while painting blotches and shapes over the street art he deemed unfit for his neighborhood. At one point in his ranting, he gestured at a graffitied wall and yelled “that’s not art!” Through framing, layering, and pacing, ‘That’s Not Art’ silently asks its viewers to reimagine the world around them.
