10:11 p.m. That's it, they finally announced it on TV: individual freedoms are over. Alya, 17, and her mother are eating macaroni and cheese on the living room sofa. It's 7:38 p.m., a winter evening like any other, with its fog and loneliness. The screen shows the regime's sinister victories: mass arrests of feminists, widespread surveillance, mandatory personal cameras even in the privacy of the home. Sonia, hypnotized by the propaganda, forces Alya to turn on her personal camera.
