Overview

Repeats is a slide show set to a soundtrack of answering machine messages and accompanied by sequenced pictures that repeat known images from film history. Eleven different narratives make up Repeats, each one featuring the person who left the voice message. Repeats takes many of its cues from Chris Marker’s film La Jetée (1962) – a landmark experimental short made almost entirely from still images and one of the films ripped off here. Repeats was a sequel (repeat) of an earlier work heavily indebted to Nan Goldin, The Ballad of Technological Dependency (1998).
