Commando (1985) was developed as a fast-paced "pop art" action film, heavily tailored to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s persona by rewriting an initial script about a retired Israeli soldier. Director Mark L. Lester focused on an "exaggerated reality" with high-octane stunts, many of which Schwarzenegger performed himself despite suffering injuries
