Josep Pla
Overview
This biographical documentary explores the life and work of Josep Pla in four stages. The first (1897–1936) covers his career as a press correspondent, bestselling author, MP and parliamentary correspondent in Madrid. The second (1936–1948) follows his flight to France during the Civil War, his return to Barcelona with Franco’s troops and his voluntary retreat to the Empordà, where years of reflection shaped his writing. The third (1948–1965) focuses on his reports for *Destino* magazine, during which he devoted himself to writing new books and compiling his complete works. The final stage (1966–1981) centres on *The Gray Notebook*, a synthesis of his literary output, and the widespread recognition of his work as a major contribution of Catalan culture to Spain and the world.
