Fading Away
Overview
In the traditional hanok “Joseonchae,” a grandfather (70) lives with his unemployed son Wonhee (29), whose frustration with rural life fuels constant conflict. When Jaeil (28), a redevelopment agent, offers a large sum for the house, their divide deepens. The grandfather refuses, but Wonhee, anxious about his future, secretly searches for the family seal and is caught and driven out. After discovering an old family photo, he realizes the home’s deeper meaning. Meanwhile, Jaeil breaks in to steal the seal and threatens the grandfather. Wonhee returns to protect him, and together they fend off the intruder. Through the ordeal, Wonhee understands the hanok is not mere property but a vessel of memory and identity.
