Overview

Kalmykia, the only predominantly Buddhist region in Europe, is inhabited by a population related to the Mongols. Arslan Manasyan films in a highly expressive documentary style that captures the feel of local life here. In the course of a single night, things come full circle for the androgynous protagonist, from murder to murderer, as notions of love and death merge into one.
