DERO: Terror from Underground

Overview

In 1943, a factory worker in Pennsylvania mailed a letter to a pulp science fiction magazine. He said he had spent years hearing voices — not through his ears, but through his welding machine. He called what he heard the Dero: ancient underground beings using the abandoned machines of a dead civilization to torture the people living above them. He was almost certainly mentally ill. Then fifty thousand strangers wrote in to say they had heard them too.
